Where and when will Los Angeles FC play in the 2025 Club World Cup?

Against all odds, Los Angeles FC defeated Liga MX giants América 2-1 in the FIFA Play-In and secured the last available ticket to the expanded 2025 Club World Cup with 32 participants. Goals from Igor Jesus before the end of regular time, and a strike from Denis Bouanga in extra time, secured the Black & Gold’s qualification.

The one-off game came about as a result of Club León being ousted from the competition by FIFA with the Mexican side in breach of multi club ownership regulations. After a definitive CAS ruling, FIFA decided that that final place would be decided in a one off game between LAFC and the Liga MX side.

LAFC were beaten finalists when León won the the 2023 Concacaf Champions League final with América, the highest ranked Mexican side in the CONCACAF coefficient ranking.

LAFC complete Group D

Steve Cherundolo’s team will be in Group D of the Club World Cup. They will face Flamengo, Chelsea and Espérance de Tunis. The Black & Gold will debut in the championship on June 16 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, against the Blues, the newly crowned champions of the Conference League. The MLS side will then travel to Nashville and Orlando. If they reach the round of 16, they will face one of the two qualifiers from Group E, made up of River Plate, Inter Milan, Urawa Red Diamonds and Monterrey.
