Not the Dodgers or the Yankees: This is the first team to reach 40 wins in the MLB this season
With a third of the 2025 MLB season having been played, one team is leading the way after hitting the 40 win milestone.

With most teams having played around 60 games so far in the 2025 MLB season, we’ve reached a point of the season where a handful of teams are clearly showing their candidacy as potential World Series winners come October.
With much of the media focusing on the potential MLB record in the making by the Colorado Rockies who are on track to write an undesired page in the baseball history books.

As things stand, The Rox are set to break a MLB Modern Era (since 1901) record for the most defeats in a regular season.
In 2024, the Chicago White Sox broke the record previously held by the 1962 New York Mets when the recorded just 41 wins and 121 losses (.253 winning percentage). After 60 games, the Rockies have won only 10 and tasted defeat on 50 occasions.
Rampant Tigers
On the other end of the scale, the Detroit Tigers have become the first team to reach the 40 win milestone for the season to date. Much of their success is thanks to their pitching with Tarik Skubal, in particular, is having an outstanding year, leading MLB in WHIP (0.79) and strikeouts per nine innings (11.78).

Unlike previous seasons where the offense was sluggish, the Tigers are now backing up their elite pitching with a strong hitting performance. They’ve improved their run production significantly, scoring 309 runs so far.
The 2025 Detroit Tigers appear to have a well-rounded team, with strong performances from both their pitching rotation and their batting lineup, along with solid defense, like Javier Baez’s spectacular plays at shortstop.
