MCU

Ryan Reynolds is writing a new Deadpool movie that might change Marvel’s plan for the X-Men franchise

The actor, who brings the Merc with a Mouth to life, is exploring a cinematic adventure that could define the future of mutants in the MCU.

The addition of mutants to the MCU has opened a door to endless possibilities for this universe. While not entirely what audiences were expecting, Deadpool & Wolverine was very well received, grossing $1 billion worldwide despite its R rating. Given all this, one may wonder what’s next for this character. While Ryan Reynolds is not on the roster for Avengers: Doomsday, new reports indicate that the actor is planning his next MCU appearance and the impact the Merc with a Mouth will have on the X-Men.

The future of the X-Men is in Reynolds’ hands

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds is already writing the next Deadpool movie. The Canadian actor wants to explore the idea of featuring X-Men characters in the next movie. He’s realized that his character works better in a team than on his own. According to the report, Reynolds “is working on various treatments for an ensemble film featuring three or four X-Men characters.” Another idea Reynolds has is to have Deadpool be a supporting player who stays on the sidelines.

It is also unclear which characters Deadpool will interact with. However, in previous movies under 20th Century Fox, we saw him interact with some of the characters from Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.

The X-Men are still on the MCU’s horizon

Although we’ve seen hints of the X-Men and mutants in recent years, the X-Men have yet to debut as a team in the MCU. First, they must finish the current Multiverse Saga, which will follow the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Stesp, Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Avengers: Secret Wars. Looking to the present, it was recently revealed that the director of Thunderbolts* (also known as The New Avengers) is on the shortlist to bring the X-Men to life.
