Marvel delays the release of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’: these are the new dates
The studio has released the new release date for two of the most anticipated films of the next few years.

After announcing the first delay to the end of April 2026, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will not be released on its scheduled date. Marvel Studios announced that the new ‘Avengers’ movie will be released a few months later than originally planned. Specifically, it will be released on December 18, 2026. This also means that ‘Avengers: Secret Wars‘, which was scheduled for release just a year after the first film, has also been delayed and will now be released on December 17, 2027. ‘Spider-Man 4′, which was originally going to be released after ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ will be released much earlier, on July 31, 2026.
Marvel cited the need for more time to execute their “mammoth vision” for the film as the reason for the delay. Consequently, the Russo brothers’ films belonging to Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will not be released until 2027 and 2028, respectively.
A new “Barbenheimer” phenomenon?
With the new delay of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ to mid-December next year, it has also been confirmed which other film will be released on the same day. And the fact is that December 18 could be one of the highest-grossing days in movie history with the release of two of the most anticipated films of the new lustrum, thus creating a new “Barbenheimer” style phenomenon like the one we experienced a couple of years ago.
According to ScreenTime, ‘Dune 3: Messiah’ will be released worldwide on December 18, 2026. The third and final installment of Frank Herbert’s trilogy, directed by Denis Villeneuve, will share the billboard with ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ However, it is not at all excluded that one or both of them will suffer a delay, something that has already happened in the past.
‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ Marvel’s most ambitious project since ‘Endgame’ (2019), will unite the Thunderbolts, Wakandans, Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four in an attempt to defeat Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. Pedro Pascal, Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, and Vanessa Kirby will star in the film.
